The following rules have been designed to ensure fair play for all participants. Any questions or concerns should be directed to the Viet Hoops staff (info@viethoops.com)
Game Play
- Each game will be started by a jump ball at mid-court.
- Five-on-five.
- Two girls on the court at all times.
- To ensure fair play, boys will be able to guard females but may not block shots (i.e. hands must be kept down).
- Regular baskets are worth one point and three-pointers are worth two points.
- Subs are only permitted after a basket or when the game is stopped for any particular reason. No subs allowed during play.
Set-up
- All games = 15 minutes (except for playoffs, where games = 20 minutes).
- No time-outs.
- No overtime.
- Teams that are late more than 5 minutes for their game will suffer a forfeit.
- Players may not play for more than one team.
Fouls
- All games will be refereed.
- After 5 team fouls, each subsequent foul will result in an automatic point for the other team.
- All jump balls become the possession of the defensive team.
- Foul and basket counts, defensive team gets ball.
- Foul and miss, offensive team gets throw-in.
- Flagrant foul - victim gets 2 free throws and possession of the ball.
- 2 flagrant fouls in a game is an automatic tournament ejection. Any fighting will also result in an automatic ejection.
- Captains are expected to ensure fair play and sportsmanship for their teams throughout the tournament.
Sportsmanship
- Fighting results in an automatic tournament ejection.
- No unnecessary vulgarity or abusive conduct -- foul language will lead to offending players being removed from the game.
- No stalling is allowed. The referee, court monitor or event staff member may institute a 30-second shot clock at any time. After a team has been warned about stalling, failure to attempt a shot within 30 seconds will result in loss of possession.
Score Keeping
- All playoff seeding for the tournament will be determined by win/loss record (ties will be broken by point differential).
- An electronic scoreboard at each court will be used as the official score of games.
After the Game
- The captain of the winning team shall obtain the score sheet from the referee or scorekeeper and deliver this score sheet to the Convenor's Table.
