The Viet Hoops team is composed of a group of young Vietnamese professionals who simply love basketball. Our aim is to bring the community together to celebrate athletics, sportsmanship, teamwork, and cutural unity, but also to just have fun.
Our team members include:
Truc Huynh
A recent MBA graduate from McMaster University, Truc (26) has held executive roles with the Vietnamese Association of Toronto (VAT –BOD), the United Vietnamese Students Association (UVSA – Vice President) and the McMaster Vietnamese Students Association (MVSA - President). Her dedication and energy in helping Vietnamese youths adds great value to every project she takes on. Truc has played in basketball intramurals throughout her university education and was on the varsity team in high school, and is living proof that petite Vietnamese girls can play basketball. As one of the founding members of Viet-Hoops, Truc looks forward to another memorable and engaging tournament.

Thien Huynh
Thien (31) works as the Director of Media Relations manager at Russell Investment Group and is also a nationally syndicated columnist for Toronto 24 Hours and Jasmine Magazine. In the past, he was a business reporter for the Toronto Star. He brings to the team a connection to the mainstream media and sponsors. Thien is also an avid basketball player, beleaguered Raptors fan, and participant in many basketball leagues and tournaments.

Tibo Phung
Tibo (26) is an engineering graduate who now works as a Systems engineer in the Ottawa area. Although he spent most of his high school basketball career sitting on the end of the bench, his passion for basketball never died and he is considered by friends to be a Raptor-o-holic. Tibo’s community work includes being an instructor for Raptorball, a program devoted to teaching kids the fundamentals of basketball, and being a member of the inaugural Len Duong Canada organizing committee, a youth leadership development camp for the Vietnamese community. He now looks forward to the challenge of bringing basketball to Ontario’s Vietnamese community.

Tam Tran
A graduate of Carleton University, Tam Tran (28) now works as an intern-architect at a downtown Toronto Architectural firm. In the past, Tam has been involved in many fundraising events for major charity organizations and has volunteered his time coaching recreational soccer since the age of 18. Tam is known for his positive attitude and endless enthusiasm, but even more so for his dedication to the community and its youth groups. He has competed at the provincial level in soccer, badminton and rugby in his “golden” days, but describes himself as a mediocre player at basketball and volleyball. Tam is looking forward to contributing his best effort to his newfound Viet community while learning more about his culture.

John Tran
John (28) is an engineer who works for a Medical Imaging Software company, and runs a small business as a software developer. He is an avid badminton player and has volunteered as an assistant coach at Etobicoke Junior Badminton Club over the last three years. In 2008, John is hoping to open his own Junior Badminton club. John attended OFSAA badminton in 1998, where he placed second in Ontario. Badminton is not the only sport that he enjoys, as he is also very active in basketball, indoor/beach volleyball and other sports. He is looking forward to Viet Hoops 2008 and connecting with other young Vietnamese athletes.

Frank Le
Frank (32) toiled away in Guelph and San Diego for school. He wandered back to Canada in 2004 and recently made his way down to Toronto to check out what all the hype was about Viet Hoops. And boy, did he ever find out. Though evidently not a terribly skilled basketball referee (it looks so darn easy on TV), he does enjoy cooking tofu/bland chicken stirfrys. He, too, is looking forward to Viet Hoops 2008/9/10 and connecting with other Vietnamese athletes and community members.
